Beith Tales

Hugh Stevenson was born at Janefield Place, Beith in 1924. His family is much associated with furniture manufacture. His immediate connection with the furniture trade is emphasised by the fact that his father, Big Hugh, as a babe in arms pu'ed the string that sounded the hooter at the Janefield Works, and was the manager until the works closure by the Co-op after its takeover from Stevenson and Higgins. He was interviewed by Sandy Bruce in December 1993.
