Robert Clark, club president, writes: On a slightly cooler evening than usual 16 members of Beith Bowling Club took part in the Friday Wapinschaw at Boghead. The winners were the pair of Alena Thomson (lead) and Brian Thompson(skip).
Garnock Valley Ex President’s were in action on the Beith green last week. Club President Robert Clark welcomed President Michael Bennett and the Kilmarnock Ex-Presidents also President John Simpson and the Garnock Valley Ex-Presidents to Beith Bowling Club for their annual match. After the welcome ceremony President Clark gave the green over to President Simpson. The game was played in wonderful sunny weather and many of the Kilmarnock players commenting that the Beith green is the best they have played on this year. It must have suited them as they were in top form and "gubbed", "thrashed", their Garnock Valley counterparts. After the game all sat down to a magnificent meal prepared and served by the ladies of the club. The Beith boys won were first in the knife and fork fight! After the meal and presentation of badges, Vice President Bill Carrey of the Garnock Valley Ex-Presidents gave a comprehensive vote of thanks. Bill thanked Beith Bowling Club for the use of the facilities, the ladies for the catering, Angela for her work at the bar and the greenkeeper for providing the perfect playing surface to show the Beithians how bowls should be played. President Simpson then gave the green back to Beith Bowling Club and everyone then enjoyed the rest of the evening with a small refreshment. Beith travelled to Kilbirnie for their first away match of the season. Beith were sitting top of the league section, but Kilbirnie put a dent in their aspirations of being league winners by beating Beith by a whopping 10 points to 0 points. The Beith boys life to play another day, hopefully with better results!
