Dig For Victory

Lily Ferguson and Ailsa Higgins, P7, write: Beith Primary School recently had a ‘black and white’ day to celebrate local team, Beith Juniors, winning the league championship. All the pupils had to wear black and white to school and bring in a donation of 50p or over to do so. At the P7 leaver’s disco there were glow sticks and snacks sold and the money raised by that is being added to the money raised from the black and white day. The final amount is not yet known, but it will be used to buy two commemorative benches for the school garden.

The garden has been worked on over the past two years by the P7 classes and from this year by the P6s, and has now been restored to its former healthy state. There were also plants kindly donated by Maitlands Nursery, Gateside. This garden area was the dig for victory garden during the war, when the old school was on this site, and we have devoted a section of as a war memorial garden.

The rest of the money raised is being donated to Erskine Hospital for ex-soldiers. Both the benches have been made by the boys at Geilsland School.
