CRICKET

Spier’s School were defeated by Kelvinside Academy at Mashyland last Saturday by 51 runs to 39.

MASONIC ADVERT

Beith St. John’s Kilwinning Coronation Parade, by command of the RWM the brethern will assemble in the lodge room at 11.30 am on Coronation Day and proceed from thence to the public park to take part in the Loyal Demonstration. Dress – dark clothes, white ties and gloves.

VOLUNTEERS SERVICE

A special service company is to be formed in connection with the Beith Volunteers, the members of which will be liable to be called out for home defence in case of emergency.

HAMILFIELD SABBATH SCHOOL EXCURSION

The children, teachers, parents, and friends, with Rev. Mr Baillie to the number of 340 had their annual excursion to South Beach on the holiday. The fine weather contributed much to the enjoyment of the trip.

BEITH VOLUNTEER MARKSMEN

On Tuesday some excellent practice was made on the Beith range. 14 men averaging 83.6 points. Highest – Sergeant Higgins 95; J McDonald 92; G Kerr 90; Major W Sneddon 90; Cpl Sevenson 86; Colour Sgt Guy 85; A Kerr 84; Sgt Love 83; Captain Balfour 82; Sgt Instructor Woodman 82.

MEDAL PRESENTATION

Mr Robert Thomson of the Caledonia Works, the oldest journeyman carver in the town, has presented the apprentice carvers to all the factories with a coronation medal. The medal bears the device – “King Edward 1, not the V11 of Britain, and the British Empire” – on the one side and on the other “In Defence of Scotland’s National Rights and Honour.” Rabbie is nothing if not patriotic.

CORONATION REVIEW

Included in the Squadran of Ayrshire Imperial Yeomanry who attended the great coronation review at Aldershot on Monday were the following members of the H Beith Troop viz: Sergeant James Kerr, Fulwoodhead; Cpl A Kelso, Roughwood; Trooper John Allan, Southridgehill; Trooper William Marshall, Gateside; and a Trooper Archibald Waterson, Kings Road. The men of Beith are naturally proud of being selected to take part in such a historic pageant. They ejoyed their visit to the south very much and returned to camp at Ayr on Tuesday.

COLM’S DAY OUTING

The popular summer holiday on Tuesday was favoured with perhaps the finest days we have so far experienced this season. Probably on account of the coronation holidays next week, the excursions were 430 fewer than a year ago. The following were the principal points visited. Passengers booked from the G & SW railway as follows: Glasgow 101; Paisley 21; Greenock & coast 40; Dumfries 3; Carlisle 3; Saltcoats 28; Ardrossan including Free Church SS Excusion 340; Largs 220; Irvine 12; Ayr 32; Arran via Ardrossan 9; Befast per Adder 4; Campeltown per Queen Alexandra 27; Millport via Fairlie 15; various points 46. Total 902. The following booked from the Caledonian Station: Glasgow 70; Greenock 6; Ardlui 5; Arran 7; Saltcoats 22; Rothesay 12; various 40. Total 162.
